The delivery ceremony of the Gowind corvette Al Emarat, ordered by the United Arab Emirates from Naval Group, took place on June 27, 2024, in Lorient.
The event was attended by an official delegation from the U.A.E. Navy, led by Deputy Commander Brigadier Abdulla Al Mehairbi.
Al Emarat is the second Gowind corvette ordered by the U.A.E. in 2019. Built in Lorient and launched in May 2022, it began sea trials in October 2023, coinciding with the delivery of the first corvette, Bani Yas. The crew of Al Emarat will continue their operational ship training in France before the ship begins its transit to the U.A.E. under the Emirati flag in July, with an expected arrival in Abu Dhabi in August.
The Gowind corvettes were built at Naval Group's Lorient shipyard, incorporating equipment manufactured locally by U.A.E. industry.
The Gowind corvette, a successful design with 11 units chosen by several navies, offers multiple capabilities for naval defense and maritime security operations, featuring an integrated combat management system, automated systems, and deployable resources. The technical features include an overall length of 102 meters, a beam of 16 meters, and a displacement of 2,800 tons.
