Kongsberg Defense & Aerospace (KONGSBERG) has signed a NOK 12 billion ($1.3 billion) contract with the Netherlands to deliver NASAMS and NOMADS air defense systems.
The agreement, finalized on November 21, is part of the Dutch government's CITADEL program for integrated air and missile defense.
The decision to acquire the systems followed a recommendation to Parliament announced on October 14.
KONGSBERG President Eirik Lie noted that the Netherlands would become the first international user of the NOMADS system.
The Netherlands initially adopted NASAMS (National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System) in 2006. The new acquisition includes NOMADS, a mobile air defense system tailored for protecting land forces in contested environments. Fully integrated with NASAMS and NATO systems, NOMADS allows for autonomous and networked operations with multiple vehicles.
Deliveries of the systems are scheduled to begin in 2028.
The NASAMS system, developed by KONGSBERG and Raytheon, is recognized as the first operational network-centric ground-based air defense system.
