Elbit Systems Deutschland has received an order from Lufthansa Technik to outfit German government Airbus A350 aircraft with the J-MUSIC Directed Infrared Countermeasures (DIRCM) self-protection systems.
This initiative stems from the Federal Office for Equipment, Information Technology and Operations of the Bundeswehr (BAAINBw) and is part of Germany’s efforts to enhance aviation security against surface-to-air missile threats.
The contract, spanning a five-year period, marks the first installation of Elbit’s DIRCM technology on an Airbus A350.
DIRCM systems like the J-MUSIC are engineered to counter surface-to-air missile threats, including those posed by man-portable air-defense systems (MANPADS). These systems employ laser and imaging technology to disrupt missile guidance systems, ensuring aircraft and personnel safety.
The Special Mission Air Wing, responsible for political and parliamentary flight operations in Germany, plays a critical role in national security.
