The Indian Navy and Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) have conducted combat firing of the indigenously developed Multi-Influence Ground Mine (MIGM), marking a key step toward its operational deployment.

The firing, carried out with a reduced explosive payload, validated the mine’s combat readiness.

Developed by the Naval Science & Technological Laboratory in Visakhapatnam with support from the High Energy Materials Research Laboratory in Pune and Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory in Chandigarh, the MIGM is designed to counter modern stealth ships and submarines. The system strengthens India’s underwater defense by combining multiple influence sensors to detect and neutralize maritime threats.

Bharat Dynamics Limited, Visakhapatnam, and Apollo Microsystems Limited, Hyderabad, are the production partners for the mine, ensuring domestic manufacturing capability.

DRDO Chairman Dr. Samir V. Kamat stated, “With this validation trial, the system is now ready for induction into the Indian Navy.”
