New Rheinmetall Facility in Telford to Restore U.K. Tank Gun Production by 2027

Rheinmetall has selected Telford, England, as the location for its new gun manufacturing facility, marking a key step in restoring sovereign defense manufacturing capabilities in the United Kingdom.

This move continues Rheinmetall’s strategic partnership with the U.K. Ministry of Defence under the Trinity House Agreement, positioning the U.K. to regain the ability to produce main battle tank and artillery guns domestically.

The facility, scheduled to begin production in 2027, represents a renewed U.K. capability lost since 2016. It will support the modernization of the British Army and strengthen NATO’s collective defense capacity by providing interoperable weapon systems for allied forces. Rheinmetall has already ordered long-lead manufacturing equipment to ensure timely progress.

The new site will use British steel and manufacturing techniques, contributing to the U.K. economy with over £400 million invested across the next decade. The project is expected to create more than 400 direct and indirect jobs.

Rheinmetall’s broader U.K. strategy includes expanding its Telford factory to support Boxer and Challenger 3 vehicle production, and developing Rheinmetall House in Bristol as a hub for innovation and collaboration with the Ministry of Defence.

As the British Army plans to triple its combat capability by 2030, Rheinmetall’s facility will deliver advanced gun systems vital for future operational readiness, including in Ukraine and other conflict zones.
