The Swedish Armed Forces (SAF) are introducing the Bombardier Global 6500, which will receive the military designation TP 106 will replace the state airline's current Gulfstream IV (TP 102C) and Gulfstream G550 (TP 102D) aircraft.
At the same time as the TP 106 is being introduced, the Swedish Armed Forces are beginning the introduction of the S 106 (GlobalEye), an advanced radar surveillance system based on the same Bombardier platform, the SAF said in a release.
The common platform enables the sharing of technical personnel, training and spare parts, further strengthening capacity and readiness. This increases the state aviation's ability to quickly and safely carry out strategic passenger transports - an important part of ensuring that Sweden's top leadership can be moved under all conditions.
Unified fleet provides operational advantages
The introduction of TP 106 means a standardization of the aircraft fleet with several important advantages. By having all pilots and technicians trained on the same aircraft type, personnel resources can be planned and used more flexibly.
Modern technology and higher reliability
TP 106 offers high operational reliability, long range and modern technology that meets today's demands for availability and operational effectiveness. The system specifically solves the problems with the older TP 102C, which in recent years has had limited availability due to technical problems and a lack of spare parts.
The squadron regularly participates in the Swedish Air Force's exercises to be able to rebase to other airports and operate at elevated threat levels. This ensures the ability to conduct strategic passenger transports both nationally and internationally, even under demanding circumstances.
