Indonesia and France today signed a letter of intent for the former to procure additional units of Rafale Jets, Light Frigates and Scorpene Submarines besides CAESAR artillery guns and ammunition.

French President Emmanuel Macron and his Indonesian counterpart were present at the signing ceremony in Jakarta today.

French defence minister Sébastien Lecornu tweeted after signing ceremony, “On the occasion of the state visit of @EmmanuelMacron,signing with my counterpart of a letter of intent concerning the future acquisition of: additional Rafale at, additional light frigates and Scorpène submarines and additional CAESAR guns and their ammunition.”

Thanks to our Indonesian partner for this trust. It demonstrates both the excellence of French equipment and our desire to establish lasting partnerships that benefit the local defense industry, he said.

"I am pleased that the letter of intent signed today may open the door to new orders for Rafale, Scorpene, and light frigates," Macron said at a joint press conference with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto.

In 2022, the two countries signed an $8.1 billion defense agreement, which included an order for 42 Rafale fighter jets from the French company Dassault Aviation, in addition to a series of agreements on submarine and ammunition production.
