The Royal Norwegian Ministry of Defence has selected California-based Skydio to supply autonomous small uncrewed aerial systems (sUAS) in an initial tender valued at 101 million Norwegian Kroner, approximately $9.4 million USD.

The agreement marks the start of Norway’s adoption of the U.S.-made Skydio X10D drone platform, which is being delivered in partnership with Norwegian defense supplier Oskar Pedersen AS.

Deliveries of the X10D systems to the Norwegian Armed Forces have already begun. Designed to strengthen operational capability in Arctic and northern regions where extreme weather and limited visibility are common, the X10D combines onboard artificial intelligence, autonomous flight, and advanced sensors to support real-time surveillance and data gathering in contested environments

Engineered for cold-weather operations down to -20°C and low-light conditions using Skydio NightSense, the drone is built to function through Nordic winters. Its modular, open architecture and resilience to electronic warfare enable continued performance in communication-challenged areas. The drone’s sensors are intended to help Norwegian forces gather and share information efficiently across varied terrain.
