Sweden, Denmark, and Norway will jointly finance a U.S. military equipment package worth $500 million for Ukraine, officials announced on 5 August.
Sweden alone will contribute $275 million (SEK 2.7 billion) to the deal, which includes air defence systems and other critical battlefield supplies.
The funding comes in response to U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement on 14 July that the United States will supply Ukraine with several defence support packages. NATO will coordinate the delivery and ensure the package addresses Ukraine’s most urgent military needs.
At a press conference in Stockholm, Sweden’s Minister for Defence Pål Jonson, Minister for Energy, Business and Industry Ebba Busch, and Minister for Education and Integration Simona Mohamsson outlined the country’s contribution.
“We welcome the United States’ decision to provide defence materiel to Ukraine, including the Patriot air defence system,” Jonson said. “Ukraine urgently needs the support of Allies and partners to defend itself against Russia’s aggression.”
The joint package will include air defence systems and munitions for the Patriot system, anti-tank weapons, ammunition, and spare parts.
Sweden has committed military aid worth approximately SEK 83 billion since Russia launched its full-scale invasion in 2022. The new contribution will be drawn from Sweden’s dedicated economic framework for military support to Ukraine.
