Russian-Ukrainian Citizen Arrested Over Alleged Moscow Region Car Bomb Plot Targeting Soldier

A Russian-Ukrainian citizen has been arrested in the Moscow region on allegations of planning a car bomb attack against a Russian soldier, according to the Federal Security Service (FSB).

The FSB’s Public Relations Center said the suspect, born in 1989, was allegedly working as an agent for Ukrainian special services under the pseudonym “Voron.” Authorities claim he was recruited in a third country and received instructions to carry out the attack.

Investigators allege the man built an improvised explosive device (IED) containing over 60 kilograms of explosives, which he concealed inside a car purchased with transferred funds. The vehicle was reportedly to be parked in a location designated by Ukrainian handlers and detonated when a high-ranking Russian Ministry of Defense serviceman passed nearby.

The suspect was detained on the M-4 highway en route to the alleged target location. During questioning, the man reportedly admitted to installing the explosives beneath the spare wheel and hiding an electronic detonator inside the dashboard. Authorities said he was promised safe return to Ukraine and exemption from mobilization in exchange for carrying out the attack.

Criminal cases have been opened under charges of treason and illegal handling of explosives. If convicted, the suspect could face a life sentence.
