The Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) has accepted its sixth and final Arctic and Offshore Patrol Vessel (AOPV), HMCS Robert Hampton Gray, completing the Harry DeWolf-class fleet delivered under Canada’s National Shipbuilding Strategy.
Since the first ship entered service in 2021, the AOPVs have deployed on Operations CARIBBE, HORIZON and NANOOK, circumnavigated North America, sailed to Antarctica, and supported humanitarian missions in Canada under Operation LENTUS. Designed as ice-capable and globally deployable platforms, the ships enhance Canada’s ability to assert sovereignty, conduct armed surveillance, transport cargo and vehicles, embark helicopters and deployable boats, and contribute to allied operations worldwide.
Following delivery, HMCS Robert Hampton Gray will undergo sea trials and evaluations before commissioning in 2026 at its home port in Esquimalt, British Columbia.
