Hanwha Aerospace signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Estonian software firms Nortal and SensusQ to develop a next-generation Battlefield Management System (BMS) together.
The deal was made on September 3 during the International Defence Industry Exhibition (MSPO) in Poland.
The partnership will combine Hanwha's Redback Infantry Fighting Vehicle (IFV) platform with Nortal's experience in digital transformation and systems integration and SensusQ's technical expertise in situational awareness and decision support.
The new BMS will be capable of offering real-time, multi-domain decision-making support, auto-intelligence processing, and secure interoperability for coalition forces. Its modular design will enable it to integrate with the Redback IFV but also with a broad range of platforms to meet NATO's operational requirements and boost the European defence sector.
BMS technology serves a significant function in military activities by bringing data together for command and control, providing tactical commanders with near real-time information sharing at the battalion level.
Nortal's Defence Business Area Director, Peeter Smitt, explained the cooperation would enable defence forces to respond to hybrid threats more quickly and at lower costs.
The firms also intend to look into possibilities in Estonia and Central and Eastern Europe for implementing the new BMS, customized according to local operational and technological needs.
