Russia Deploys New Batch of Tank Support Combat Vehicles to Troops

Uralvagonzavod Group, part of Russia’s state-owned Rostec, recently delivered a new batch of tank support combat vehicles (BMPTs) to Russian troops.

The deliveries come ahead of Russia’s Ground Forces Day and mark the first detailed update on BMPTs in several years. The vehicles are designed to support tanks and motorized infantry, provide all-around protection, and engage multiple targets, including drones.

According to Uralvagonzavod, the BMPTs have proven effective in the ongoing military operation in Ukraine, functioning both alongside tanks and as independent combat units. The 2025 models feature enhanced reactive armor, additional side protection, and upgrades informed by operational experience.

The BMPT carries a crew of five, a powerful weapons suite, and an advanced fire control system, enabling simultaneous engagement of multiple targets. Its frontal armor matches that of a main battle tank, while side and rear protection, including bar-slat armor, is designed to counter the most common anti-tank threats.

The 47-ton vehicles can reach speeds of up to 65 km/h with a cruising range of 550 km. They are deployed alongside T-90M Proryv and T-72B3M tanks equipped with counter-drone and electronic warfare systems.

The BMPT is intended to suppress enemy forces threatening tanks, support combined arms operations, and strike low-flying or dispersed targets with precision day or night. Uralvagonzavod emphasized that no other combat vehicle currently offers comparable all-round protection against widely used anti-tank weapons.
