AH-64E Apache helicopters at RAAF Base Townsville

Australia received its first two AH-64E Apache attack helicopters, defence ministry announced on October 9.

The helicopters arrived at RAAF Base Townsville on September 28, transported by a United States Air Force C-17 Globemaster.

Boeing Defence Australia will support the helicopters through a seven-year contract covering maintenance, engineering, training, and logistics.

Infrastructure upgrades at RAAF Base Townsville, along with the relocation of 1 Aviation Regiment and 16 Aviation Brigade Headquarters, will support the Apache fleet. The Townsville Aviation Training Academy will provide technical courses to train personnel for both Apache and CH-47F Chinook helicopters.

Australia expects to receive all 29 Apaches by 2029.
