U.S Army Contracting Command has awarded a $6.1million contract to General
Dynamics to produce more than 25 Army Standard Family expandable mobile shelters for use in extreme environments. ASF shelters are used as command centers, kitchens, maintenance shops and medical facilities. The shelters are constructed of aluminum-faced, nonmetallic honeycomb-sandwich panels and can include features for power and signal distribution, environmental control units and lighting and are easily transportable by truck, helicopter, cargo aircraft, sea and rail. The first delivery will take place in 2013 as a part of multi-year contract awarded to General Dynamics and this delivery order increases the total contract value to-date to $26 million. Jim Losse, vice president and general manager of advanced materials for General Dynamics Armament and Technical Products said, "The ASF shelters are well-suited for high-rate production and specialized custom fabrication. This contract is an opportunity for us to continue delivering the high-quality product our customer has come to expect of General Dynamics".
