Russia To Sell Angola India Returned Su-30K Jets In $1 Billion Deal

Angola will induct Su-30K fighter jets, that were originally sold to India, in a $1 billion arms deal with Russia.

The deal with Rosoboronexport includes delivery of has Mi-17 transport helicopters, tanks, artillery, firearms and ammunition military equipment, building an ammunition plant and providing maintenance services.

In 2007, India returned the Su-30K fighter aircraft after it took delivery of the more advanced multirole Su-30MKI variant. Since then the aircraft have lain idle in a Belarusian repair plant.

They had previously been offered to Belarus, Sudan and Vietnam.

Rosoboronexport will also conduct maintenance for Russian-made military equipment used by the Angolan military, according to Ria Novosti.

Neither Rosoboronexport nor the Russian MoD have acknowledged the deal but reports suggest that the deal was signed last week during Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin’s trip to Angola.
