Iran Test-Fires New Missile

Iran has test fired a new guided long-range ballistic surface-to-surface missile known as 'Emad' on Sunday.

The missile with guidance and control systems can hit targets and completely destroy them with high precision, various media reported Sunday.

"The surface-to-surface missile has been completely designed and manufactured by experts of Iran’s Aerospace Industries Organization affiliated with the Iranian Ministry of Defense," Iran’s Defense Minister Gen. Hossein Dehghan said.

It was able to be controlled until the moment of impact and to hit targets “with high precision.”

This is the first test of a ballistic surface-to-surface missile by Iran since U.N. Security Council Resolution 2231 in July, which endorsed a landmark nuclear deal reached between Iran and world powers. The resolution called on Iran not to undertake any activity related to ballistic missiles capable of delivering nuclear weapons.

Emad would be mass produced and delivered to missile units of the Iranian Armed Forces soon to significantly enhance their tactical and operational power, Deghghan added.
