US Acquires 50 Lockheed C-130J Super Hercules Planes for $3B

The US Department of Defense awarded Lockheed Martin $3 billion to supply 50 C-130J Super Hercules planes.

The company had won $1.5 billion for the first tranche of 21 C130Js on December 27.

“Lockheed Martin will deliver 50 C-130J Super Hercules to the US government through a C-130J Multiyear III award, which was finalized by the US government on Dec. 27, 2019. The award comes as a delivery order under an existing Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity contract awarded in August 2016. The Department of Defense awarded more than $1.5 billion in funding for the first 21 C-130J aircraft on the multiyear award, the company said in a statement Monday.

Under the contract, LM will supply 24 HC/MC-130Js to the US Air Force, and 20 KC-130Js to the Marine Corps while the US Coast Guard has an option to buy six HC-130Js, as part of the “multiyear III award.” The planes will be delivered between 2021 and 2025.
