Lockheed Martin, BAE Systems Partner on New Autonomous Air Systems

Lockheed Martin’s Skunk Works and BAE Systems’ FalconWorks announced a strategic partnership Tuesday to develop a new range of modular, rapidly deployable, uncrewed autonomous air systems.

The focus will be on creating cost-effective platforms that can be launched from the air, land, sea, or large transport aircraft, the companies said.

The first system under development will concentrate on electronic warfare (EW) and attack roles. It will be capable of carrying out multiple misions while enhancing the survivability of existing crewed combat aircraft.

The companies added that the program aims to support the growing need for affordable “combat mass” as countries shift towards integrating both crewed and uncrewed systems on the battlefield.
