China’s J-15 fighter is being upgraded with a new AESA radar besides an improved landing gear that will enable it to operate from the Fujian aircraft carrier that has an electromagnetic-launch-arrested-landing system (EMALS).
The absence of a pitot tube on the new J-15, which is an indication that the aircraft has switched to use a more advanced active electronically scanned array radar system and associated avionics, speculatefd global times.
The upgraded fighters were seen at the 10th anniversary of China's carrier based aviation force. The aircraft was seen flying along side the next-generation stealth fighter jet, reportedly called the J-35 , stated Global Times.
As per reports by CCTV, China is also developing carrier-based fixed-wing early warning aircraft and drones, in addition to more aircraft carriers.
The J-15 will complement the J-31 which has been designed for operation on board an EMALS -equipped aircraft carrier.
