The U.S. State Department has approved the sale of AIM-120C-8 Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAM) and related equipment to Germany for $2.9 billion.
The deal will now be reviewed by the U.S. Congress.
Berlin wants 969 AMRAAMs and 12 AMRAAM C8 Guidance Sections.
The AIM-120C-8 is one of several modifications of the AMRAAM air-to-air missile. It has a maximum launch range of 180km, a two-way communication system and an advanced GPS-corrected inertial navigation system.
