Gepard Kamikaze Drones with Unique Anti-Electronic Warfare Features Delivered to Russian Troops

The Russian military has received a new batch of Gepard kamikaze drones designed to overcome enemy electronic warfare systems and reduce vulnerability during launch.

This is according to a statement from the People’s Front, reported by TASS on Thursday.

A total of 2,000 Gepard drones, equipped with a ‘blind’ takeoff feature and electronic warfare countermeasures, have been delivered to troops participating in Russia’s ongoing operations in Ukraine. Another 2,000 to 2,500 units are expected to follow later this year.

“Our drone features an altered failsafe function [UAV control upon the loss of communications] in order to pass through the dense areas of the operation of hostile electronic warfare systems," said Andrey, a representative of the Gepard drone manufacturer. "The drone follows an operator’s latest instructions to a point until it is out of the operation of jamming systems."

One of the defining features of the Gepard drone is its ‘blind’ takeoff capability. This system halts video transmission during the launch phase and relies solely on onboard sensors and instruments. This is intended to protect launch teams from detection by enemy reconnaissance, which has increasingly led to retaliatory strikes using cluster and precision-guided munitions.

The Gepard has already been used in strikes on key targets, including an energy infrastructure facility in the Zaporozhye region and several NATO-supplied armored vehicles, according to the manufacturer.

In a move highlighting domestic production efforts, veterans of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine are directly involved in manufacturing the Gepard drones, the People’s Front added.
