The Indonesian Ministry of Defense has officially transferred a new Coastal Surveillance Radar facility to the Indonesian Navy (TNI AL).
The handover took place at the Ministry of Defense Research and Development Agency (Balitbang Kemhan) in Jakarta on August 11.
The facility, provided through a loan mechanism, is a product of domestic innovation developed under a 2022 collaboration between Balitbang Kemhan and PT Radar Telekomunikasi Indonesia (RTI). It is designed to improve detection, monitoring, and surveillance across Indonesia’s maritime territory.
Rear Admiral TNI Tri Harsono, ST, CHRMP., M.Tr.Opsla, Assistant for Communications and Electronics to the Chief of Naval Staff, stated that the radar would be fully utilized to bolster law enforcement operations and safeguard national waters. “The use of this radar is a concrete form of integration between research results and real needs in the field. We will use it to support the operational readiness of the Indonesian Navy,” he said.
Several senior naval officers and representatives from PT Radar Telekomunikasi Indonesia attended the handover ceremony.
The Ministry of Defense plans to further develop the system to optimize sensor performance in future operations.
