Thales Completes Combat System Tests for British Type 31 Frigates
TACTICOS mission system cleared for installation on HMS Venturer after factory
Thales has completed factory acceptance testing (FAT) of its TACTICOS mission system and combat management system for the U.K. Royal Navy’s new Type 31 Inspiration-class frigates.
Conducted with Babcock and the navy, the FAT concluded at the end of April 2025 for the mission system, followed by combat system FAT at the end of June 2025.
TACTICOS will integrate sensors, compile imagery, assess tactical situations, support decisions, and manage weapons systems. It is based on the latest software version already in service with the Netherlands and is being adapted for the Royal Navy.
Installation will now move to the shore-based integration site before being fitted on HMS Venturer, the first of five Type 31 frigates under construction at Babcock’s Rosyth yard in Scotland.
With testing completed, the focus will shift toward integration and trials at sea once HMS Venturer enters service.
