Airbus Flexrotor Drone Helps Identify Narco Boat, Monitor Interdiction
Mexican forces seize four tones of narcotics after drone-guided maritime pursuit
A June 2025 counter-narcotics operation in Mexican waters led to the seizure of four tones of drugs after Airbus’ Flexrotor drone identified and tracked a low-profile vessel.
The Flexrotor, deployed under the U.S. Southern Command’s MARLINS Task Order and operated by security provider SMX, detected the narco boat and delivered live imagery to military and law enforcement agencies. This real-time intelligence enabled coordinated interdiction at sea.
Flexrotor autonomously returned to its ship after the mission, where SMX crews immediately readied it for further tasking.
