A new 40mm anti-aircraft system, capable of targeting drones, cruise missiles, aircraft and armoured vehicles from the back of a truck, is being supplied to Ukraine.
Developed by BAE Systems, the Tridon Mk2 will bridge the gap between missile air defence and counter unmanned aircraft systems (UAS).
Self-propelled and remotely controlled, it has similarities with the 40mm gun used on Type 31 Royal Navy frigates.
It can hold 100 rounds of ammunition, has an effective range of 12 km depending on the target, and can be fitted with an external radar, providing it with additional situational awareness and early-warning protection.
The Tridon Mk2 is light enough to be carried on the back of a combat truck and small enough to be camouflaged in forested or urban areas.
