GE Aviation Wins $68M US Navy Contract To Repair Generator Convertor Units For F/A-18 Planes

The US Navy has awarded a $68 million worth contract to GE Aviation for repair of 33 items that are part of the G2/G3 generator converter units used on the F/A-18 Super Hornet aircraft.

“GE Aviation Systems LLC, Vandalia, Ohio, is awarded a $68,177,707 long-term contract for repair of 33 items that are part of the G2/G3 generator converter units used on the F/A-18 aircraft,” the Department of defense announced Thursday.

The contract will include a three-year contract with one two-year option period which, if exercised, the total value of the contract will be $87,116,502, the release said.

Work will be performed in Coronado, California; and Vandalia, Ohio. Work is expected to be completed by February 2022; if the option is exercised, work will be completed by February 2024, the release added.

The F/A-18 is a twin engine, mid-wing, multi-mission tactical aircraft. All F/A-18s can be configured quickly to perform either fighter or attack roles or both, through selected use of external equipment to accomplish specific missions.
