Russian Firm Develops Device to Intercept Drone Video Signals

Russia's RosEl Holding Company has developed a new portable passive UAV detection device, Ogonyok.

It intercepts video signals from enemy drones, allowing for objective threat assessment and timely evacuation upon detection of an approaching drone.

The device itself is invisible to radar reconnaissance. The device has successfully passed combat zone testing, a Rostec release said today.

The device operates by detecting the UAV's radio stream and extracting video signals from it. Based on these signals, the equipment classifies FPV, DJI, and Autel drones. This eliminates the possibility of acquiring false targets, such as Wi-Fi or LTE signal sources.

Ogonyok scans the surrounding area in all directions, within a 360° radius, for radio signals across a wide frequency range. Its passive operation means the device is invisible to the enemy, increasing operator safety.

"The device is compact and can be mounted on the roof of even a passenger car. It is powered by a standard cigarette lighter. Any portable device running the Android operating system can serve as the operator's display. We are currently preparing for serial production of the Ogonyok," RosEl said.

The product can operate in a wide variety of landscapes—urban, open, or forested areas.
